Workshops and talks

King Henry's Walk Garden is the venue for a variety of practical workshops and talks related to gardening, wildlife and environmental themes. If there's a topic you'd like to see covered or a speaker you can recommend, please let us know. For full details of the current programme, see the What's On page.

Children are welcome to attend most of the workshops, as long as they are quiet. Please check with us to see if the workshop you're interested in is suitable. From time to time we'll arrange workshops, such as crafts, specifically for kids.

Little Green Fingers

In May, June and July 2009 we ran a weekly parent and toddler group, Little Green Fingers. This was very popular and we're currently looking for funding to run the group in 2010. One of the mums who attended said "I want to tell you how much fun it was today at your playgroup in the garden ... Even if it was raining we would still be out there, with wellies on! I would love to come regularly and thank you so much for such a different approach.”

The Garden Classroom

King Henry's Walk Garden has entered into a partnership with The Garden Classroom, a social enterprise set up by committee member Marnie Rose, to deliver educational workshops for primary schoolchildren that are linked to the curriculum. Schools who have attended sessions include St Jude's & St Paul's, Newington Green, the Children's House, Our Lady & St Joseph's, and Richard Cloudesley. In term time there are school groups enjoying these sessions at the garden almost every weekday. Funding for the workshops has come from specific grants for pilot projects, and TGC are currently seeking funding to expand their 2009/10 pilot programme borough-wide.
