Introduction to natural perfumery

Saturday 22nd September, 1.30 to 3.30

Louise Bloor is a perfumer who uses natural materials rather than the synthetic chemicals that dominate commercial perfumery. So instead of using an oil designed in a lab to smell like a rose, she uses rose oil harvested in Bulgaria’s Rose Valley where two thousand petals must be distilled to produce a single drop of oil. The talk will be an introduction to the history of perfume and the various methods of extracting natural aromatic materials, as well as learning about the head chord, heart chord and base chord that comprise a perfume. Samples of individual essential oils will be passed round during the talk.
